DIY Felt Unicorn Skeleton – Free Sewing Pattern Add-on

Make Your Own Felt Skeleton Unicorn Stuffed Animal!

What better way to celebrate this spooky Halloween than with a fun DIY Felt Unicorn Skeleton Hand sewing project?! This is Halloween Craft time at it’s finest!

I designed this free felt sewing pattern as an add-on to my Horse, Unicorn, and Pegasus sewing pattern. So you’ll need to head over and download that first to use it to make your unicorn skeleton. The pattern is such a fun addition to level up your unicorn making game. And if you’re looking for a fun Halloween craft to make, then look no further!

Creating this fun to make unicorn skeleton is really easy! All you need to do is cut the skeleton pieces from my free pattern from colored wool blend felt. I have some helpful tips and tricks for the best way to do that.

  1. My favorite way to cut felt by hand is to use some wide clear packing tape to tape the pattern pieces straight onto the felt. I start by trimming the pattern pieces from the paper just a bit. It doesn’t have to be perfect or on the line! It’s just to make it a bit smaller to tape the the felt. Once the paper is taped down trim the pieces from the felt by trimming along the pattern line, cutting through tape and felt at the same time. This will give a crisp and accurate hand cut piece.
  2. Trace the pattern pieces onto the felt with sewing chalk or dissolving/washable ink. Trim from the felt by cutting on the lines.
  3. Use a Cricut Maker or similar cutting machine to cut the felt. I have included the free cutting files to upload to the Cricut Design Space software.

Another way to make this project is a little faster and easier is to iron some light weight no-sew bond to the back of the felt. This way all you need to do is iron your skeleton pieces onto the felt horse pieces! No hand stitching required in adding the skeleton bones!
